Edward Manion Sr. pioneered the original Rubber Supplies Company over four decades ago. He had humble beginnings, working out of a small basement shop on Howe Avenue in Shelton, CT. Out of Ed’s five children with wife Patricia Bowden, his son Jed decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He started learning the trade when the first shop opened in 1974, but was only part-time until he graduated in 1975 from Shelton High School.
After taking his position at the helm of Rubber Supplies in 1981, Jed married his wife Donna who would eventually became the company office manager. Jed’s son Jordan has now been in the business learning the ropes, or as Ed Sr would say, “going to Eddy's school of hard knocks”. Jordan's daughter, the 4th generation in the Rubber Supplies legacy, might someday might be working alongside her father. It’s not quite as easy as people think to own and operate your own business, much less to have your family working together, but it's certainly got its bright side.
